Scratch your own itch

Build the tool you already pay for, hack together, or complain about. The niche is you plus people like you — which is the only audience you can describe without a survey.

You already know the language, the workarounds, and the willingness to pay. Distribution starts as autobiography, which is why it sounds true.

How to run it

  1. 01List the last five things you paid for or duct-taped this month.
  2. 02Pick the one you would still use if a competitor existed.
  3. 03Ship a version that solves your Tuesday, not an industry.
  4. 04Tell the story as 'I built this for myself' — then watch who replies 'same'.

In the wild

Nomad List started as Pieter's own spreadsheet of cities. PhotoAI existed because he wanted portraits without a studio. The products are public versions of private problems.
