Two-sided referral

Reward both the inviter and the invited with something that increases product value, not a coupon for a thing they do not want.

One-sided cash is expensive and attracts mercenaries. In-product rewards (space, credits, unlocks) make sharing feel like helping a friend.

How to run it

  1. 01Give a reward that is native to the product (storage, generations, seats).
  2. 02Make the invite a five-second copy, not a form.
  3. 03Trigger the ask right after a moment of delight.
  4. 04Cap abuse. Measure referred-user quality, not invite volume.

In the wild

Dropbox's extra space for both sides remains the canonical version. PayPal's $10/10 was the blunt ancestor — it worked, then got too expensive.
