Waitlist as a conversation

A waitlist is only useful if it segments intent and starts a dialogue. Vanity counts of 10,000 emails with no replies are a costume.

Pre-launch emails are the only list you will own on day one. Using them to learn beats using them to brag.

How to run it

  1. 01Ask one qualifying question on signup (role, tool they use now, budget).
  2. 02Onboard in small batches and watch where they stall.
  3. 03Write to the list with progress, not just 'soon'.
  4. 04Invite the most hungry 20 as concierge users.

In the wild

High-intent waitlists (design tools, Superhuman-like onboarding) treat the queue as a filter. Indie versions: a Typeform plus a personal email beats a raw Mailchimp dump.
